Description: Luxurious extraordinary golden natsume, decorated with many small flecks of gold, a flying phoenix in gold raised lacquer and with inlaid mother of pearl detail on the phoenix’s tail and paulownia leaves in gold raised lacquer. Interior of gold nashiji (gold sprinkled powder). Signed on bottom in gold lacquer ‘Kasei’. With scarf with the famous phoenix image by Hokusai, and cloth with artist’s seal. Comes with three-double box: washi paper box with artist’s seal, wooden box and original box. Original box signed Kasei, with artist’s seal. Inscription reads ‘Phoenix, maki-e, interior of nashiji, large natsume (Hōuoū maki-e uchi nashiji ō-natsume). *Born in 1940、’Toshiaki’ as the eldest son of a maki-e lacquer artisan. Established lacquer artist, has won many prizes, awards, and exhibits nationwide, at each department branch of the Mitsukoshi store and also abroad. In 2009 he established his own studio, Kasei studio, where he also teaches lacquerware.
