Artist:Onimaru Hekizan I (1947-2006)
Description: Diamond shape mizusashi with running glaze and black lacquer lid. With original box, signed made by Hekizan (Hekizan saku) with artist’s seal. Inscription reads Takatori pottery, diamond-shaped mizusashi (Takatori-yaki, hishigata mizusashi). Inner lid of box reads the same, with addition of a signature by Hishida Sōya(1925-2010), the 12th generation of the Omotesenke school of tea ceremony, who also signed the lid of the mizusashi in red lacquer. *Born as the eldest son of Onimaru Setsuzan (1912-1996) in Fukuoka prefecture. Granted the name Hekizan by Komei Hotani, Roshi of Daitokuji (head temple of the Rinzai sect’s Daitokuji school of Japanese Zen Buddhism). In 1972 his works were selected to be shown at the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition, in 1976 to be shown at the Japan Chinaware Art exhibition, in 1977 exhibited at the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, followed by numerous awards and exhibitions.
