Description: A pair of two black lacquer natsume with interior of silver lacquer. One is decorated with a bell cricket in raised gold lacquer. Interior inner lid and body of natsume decorated with various autumn plants and flowers in gold raised lacquer. The other is decorated on the body of the natsume with stylized waves in raised red lacquer. Interior has a selection of seashells and seaweed in gold raised lacquer, with red and black lacquer details. With two cloths with artist's seals reading Takao. Set comes in a paulownia box, each natsume has own respective original boxes. Both signed on the side: Takao, with artist's seal reading Takao. Inscriptions read: 'Natsume, sea weed and sea shells' (natsume, miru kai) and 'Natsume, autumn flowers and plants' (natsume, aki kusa). *Wakashima Takao was born in Ishikawa prefecture. Prestigious Wajima lacquerware artisan. Studied lacquer technique kyūshitsu under living national treasure Akaji Yūsai(1906-1984).
