Description: Takatori-style mizusashi with running glaze (black, white, two tints of brown), with horizontal lines spanning the body from the moving pottery wheel. The mizashi has a dented shape on one side. Brown interior with again horizontal lines from the pottery wheel. With black lacquer lid. White ceramic bottom with inward spiral. With original signed box, inscription reads: Takatori Mizusashi. Signed on inner lid of the box by Sen Sōshitsu XV (b.1923) (Zen title Hōunsai) , the 15th generation Grand Master of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony. *Born in Fukuoka prefecture (real name Hiroshi), into the legendary Miraku pottery lineage, as the younger brother of Kamei Miraku XIV (1931-) of the Takatori kiln. Studied pottery under the guidance of his brother from 1961 onward, won many prizes and started his own workshop in 1990. As most Takatori ceramics are related to the tea-ceremony, it is also the main focus of Rakuzan’s work.
Signed:Signed 高 i.e. takatori style (高取焼) and with artist’s seal Rakuzan. On box: ‘Made by Rakuzan’ (Rakuzan saku), with artist’s seal Rakuzan.
