Executed in the lacquerware technique chinkin-bori (沈金彫 gold-inlaid carving). A pattern is incised into a lacquer surface, after which raw lacquer is rubbed into the grooves. This function as an adhesive for the gold dust or gold leaves pressed into the etched areas. Incredibly clever design combined with mesmerizing detail and high technical mastery of the chinkin lacquerware technique.
