Born in Yamaguchi prefecture, studied in Tokyo under Noguchi Yūkoku. Great supporter of the nanga group. President of the Nihon Nangain and the Nihon Bijutsu Kyōkai. Received the Order of Cultural Merit in 1959. Introduced a new emphasis of realism, following the tradition of Watanabe Kazan and Tsubaki Chinzan.
