Kuroda Jutaro started with an apprenticeship with Kanokogi Takeshiro in 1904 and later he studied with Asai Chu. Together with Koide Narashige he established the Shinobashi Yōga Kenkyūjo, an institute to promote Western style painting in the Kansai area. From 1917-1918 he stayed in Paris and southern France to study painting. A year before his death he received the Imperial Academy of Arts Award.
