Description: Calligraphy on paper, reading ‘Auspicious cloud’ 瑞運‘ (zui un). To the left: 大徳毎厳書 (Daitoku maigan sho : written by Maigan of the Daitoku temple). First seal reading: Head priest of Ryūhō-zan (synonym of Daitoku-ji): 龍宝山主. Artist seal below reads ‘Maigan Jōshō’ 晦巌常正 (go name and personal name). With original box signed box. On the lid: Scroll with two large characters: auspicious clouds (瑞運二大字軸). On the inner lid the painting is dated ‘January 1943, one fresh morning’ (昭和癸未正陽月, 清旦) and signed紫野大梅志 with artist seal. *Maigan Ota was born in Saitama prefecture. He is a priest in the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism and the eigth Abbot of the Daitoku temple complex in Kyoto.
