The group performed at Akihabara for the whole of September in 1886. This print was published 18 September of the same year, a quick production to promote the spectacular shows.
The large red cartouche on this print reads ‘The world’s no. 1 Chiarini great circus!’. Its director and founder was Giuseppe Chiarini (1823-1897). The upper inset of this particular print is an interesting addition to the body of ‘Chiarini prints’, featuring the names of 57 (!) members and their country of origin.
