Description: No. 33, Yamashiro, Flowers of Gojōkaza, Kagekiyo and Akoya, from the series Snow moon and flowers (Setsugekka). Published by Kobayashi Tetsujirō in 1885. Taira no Kagekiyo (died 1196) fought against the Genji troops in 1185 at Dan-no-ura. Here his beloved Akoya, a courtesan of the Kyoto licensed quarters in the foothills at Fifth Avenue (Gojōkaza) sees him off. Note: the version as noted in Coats has a different colour scheme, most noteworthy in the background and kimono. Inset: Taira Kagekiyo being captured at Dan-no-ura.
