Description: Vertical diptych showing two brave men battling on the roof of Hōryūkaku. Published by Matsui Eikichi in 1885. The two men battling on the roof of the pavilion are Inuzuka Shino Moritake and Inukai Genpachi Nobumichi, characters from the Chronicles of the eight dog heroes of the Satomi clan of Nansō written by Kyokutei Bakin (1767-1848). They are fighting over a magical sword owned by Ashikaga Narauji but soon realize they are related and cease fighting to escape Ashikaga by jumping into a boat on the Tone river.
