The top cartouche shows the Kai Province: Takeda Shingen (1521-1573, pre-eminent daimyō in feudal Japan of Kai Province) hiding in a field of long grass at Kawanakajima, three followers behind him. The bottom cartouche shows Izu Province featuring the actor Onoe Baiko as Mishima Osen.
