Minamoto no Nakakuni is playing his flute in answer to the koto playing of heroine Kogo no Tsubone (1159-1180). Tsubone, a beautiful and skilled koto player and the concubine of emperor Takakura, was threatened to be killed by the Taira clan and had fled to a remote cottage in Saga. Nakakuni had been sent to find her and has succeeded by hearing and recognizing her koto play.
