Description: No. 6, Hachiman Tarō Yoshiie on horseback at Nakoso Barrier,from the series Mirrors of famous commanders of great Japan (Dai Nippon meishō kagami). Published by Funazu Chūjirō in 1876. Pictured here is Hachiman Tarō Yoshiie (Minamoto no Yoshiie 1041-1108) at the Nakoso barrier where he wrote his famous poem. On his return following his victory over Iehira and Takehira he wrote: 'Methrought this gusty barrier was a mere name, but why do the wild cherry blossoms so cover the path?'.
