With paper box with artist’s seal and original box, signed Yūsai with artist’s seal. Inscription reads: ‘Swallows and weeping willow, maki-e, chū-natsume *middle sized natsume'(tsubane ni yanagi maki-e chū-natsume).
*Born in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Lacquerware artist who has won numerous awards and exhibited his work in many prestigious lacquerware exhibitions, such as the state-sponsered Nitten and the Japanese Crafts Exhibition, of which the artist is also a member (Nihon kōgeiten) . Studied lacquerware under prestigious lacquerware artisan Tsukata Toshio 塚田外志男 (1937-2020), who modernized the lacquerware field and painted with lacquer. Further studied traditional Japanese lacquerware techniques under Yoshita Toshiaki 吉田利昭 (b.1940). Currently also teaches other artists about Kaga lacquerware techniques.
