Description: Black lacquer natsume decorated with an elegant Chinese clematis flower: the flower in hued of red, purple, orange and gold lacquer on the top of the lid, with the stem and leaves in gold and green lacquer on the body. Clearly visible reference to the Rinpa-school style in the swirling gold lines and stylized portrayal of nature. Signed on the bottom in gold lacquer: ‘Ichiryō’. With signed cloth: Ichiryō with artist’s seal Ichiryō. With original box, signed ‘Ichiryō’ with artist’s seal ‘Ichiryō’. Inscription reads: Chinese clematis flower, Riykū shape, middle sized natsume (Tessen hana Rikyū-gata, chū-natsume). *His style is inspired by Rinpa-school artist Sakai Hōitsu (1761-1829) and is characterized by bold colour usage and playful compositions. He exhibited eleven times at the prestigious state sponsored Nitten exhibition, the first time being in 1947. At the Contemporary Art exhibition he won the Encouragement prize also became a judge member.
