Artist:Wakashima Unai (b.1964)
Description: Black lacquer natsume, decorated with a horned owl perched on a branch on the lid. Sides decorated with goldflakes, silver interior. With original signed box, inscription reads: horned owl natsume (mimizuku natsume). *Born in Wajima city. His real name is Takehisa. Was taught lacquer techniques by this grandfather, 若島登 Fourth Generation of Taigado 大雅堂lacquer firm . In 1980 he entered university in Tokyo. Studied under his father Wakashima Takeshi (b.1940) . In 1993 he was appointed member of the contemporary Wajima lacquer craftsmen exhibition. In 1996 he won the Tokyo Metropolis prefectural governor prize at the New Japan Art Institute. Currently working and living in Wajima city, Nagaimachi.
