Description: Black lacquer natsume decorated with three ivy leaves in gold lacquer. With original signed box, inscription reads: Ivy, Rikyū (referring to the shape of the natsume, which in turn is a reference to legendary tea master Sen no Rikyū (1522-1591) natsume (Tsuta Rikyū natsume). *Born in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1948, his real name being Yoshio . In the same year as he was born, his father Issai I founded Chiyahira Lacquerware shop, becoming Wajima’s first lacquerware specialist for tea utensils. After graduating from Rikkyō University, he trained under his father and succeeded him as the second generation. The name Issai was given to his father by the head of the Sōhen school of tea ceremony.
