Description: Black lacquer natsume, decorated with detailed gold decoration of ferns all over the body of the natsume. Executed in the lacquerware technique chinkin-bori (沈金彫 gold-inlaid carving ). A pattern is incised into a lacquer surface, after which raw lacquer is rubbed into the grooves. This function as an adhesive for the gold dust or gold leaves pressed into the etched areas. With original signed box, inscription: Wajima-lacquer, shinten-carving (Wajima-nuri shinten chinkin). *Contemporary Wajima city lacquerware artisan. Reading of name not confirmed, but presumably Tanaka Kiyomitsu. Date of birth unknown. Exhibited his work at the prestigious state-sponsored Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition), Contemporary Arts Exhibition and the Kaga Crafts Exhibition. Has won the Chamber of Commerce President's Award. His specialty is detailed lacquerware with refined carving in the surface of the lacquer (chōkoku 刻彫).
Signed:on the bottom: made by Kiyomitsu (Kiyomitsu saku). On box on the inner lid: Kiyomitsu with artist’s seal.
