Description: Gold flat (hira) natsume, decorated three red-crowned cranes composed out of inlaid eggshell, flying over a lake depicted with stylized waves and a classical zig-zag bridge (Yatsuhashi). Gold decoration and inlaid mother of pearl detailing. Interior of gold nashiji , as well as bottom of gold nashiji (lacquer technique using sprinkled gold powder). Inner lid, red lacquer monogram by Sen Sōshitsu XV (b.1923) (Zen title Hōunsai) , the 15th generation Grand Master of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony. With original box signed box, inscription: red crowned cranes flying over a lake, flat natsume. *Born in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1948, his real name being Yoshio. In the same year as he was born, his father Issai I founded Chiyahira Lacquerware shop, becoming Wajima’s first lacquerware specialist for tea utensils. After graduating from Rikkyō University, he trained under his father and succeeded him as the second generation.
