Description: Red natsume decorated with weeping willows in raised gold lacquer (tate maki-e). Small flecks of gold in the background. Interior and bottom of gold nashiji (sprinkled gold). With original signed box and cloth with artist's seal. *From a line of lacquerer artisans associated with the Senke tea schools. Born in 1963 in Yamanakaonsen-cho in Ishikawa prefecture. He first studied economics at Teikyo University and dealt in tea utensils, before starting training with his father Sekisai IV in 1992. He took the name Sekisai V in 2003. He gave lacquer demonstrations at the Aichi World Expo in 2005 and the following year in New York’s Museum of Modern Art and has had numerous exhibitions in prestigious department stores.
