Description: Natsume of ivy wood, nakatsugi shape (cylindrical natsume where top and bottom meet exactly in the middle), decorated with a bell cricket in raised gold lacquer on the lid. Inlaid mother of pearl in the insect’s wings and eyes. Decorated on the side with pampas grass in gold lacquer with little specks of silver on the bottom part of the natsume. Interior of gold nashiji (sprinkled gold). With original box, inscription reads: made of ivy wood, nakatsugi, bell cricket (tsuta zō, nakatsugi, suzumushi). *Born in 1955 in Wajima city, Machinomachi. In 1973 studied under Suzutani Tetsugorō (b. 1932). Won several prizes: three times at the Wajima City Arts exhibition, once the director’s prize at the Wajima Crafts Assocation. His work was selected six times for the Japan New Crafts Exhibition, one entry won a prize. Exhibited twice at the prestigious state-sponsored Nitten (Japan Fine Arts) exhibition. He won eight prizes at the Traditional crafts Wajima Lacquer exhibition.
Signed:Hiroshi on the bottom of natsume, and on original box plus artist’s seal reading Hiroshi.
