*Okamoto Yōsai is a lacquer artist born and living in Kyoto, but he also has a studio in Yamanaka, Kaga (Ishikawa prefecture). A particular aesthetic that recurs in his work and that is also highly valued by collectors is his lacquerware in which he combines vermilion lacquer with black lacquer, forming a striking contrast. He specializes in Wajima lacquer and the majority of his work consists of utensils for the tea ceremony (such as natsume and mizusashi) and tableware (such as bowls).
