Description: Purple hira-natsume (flat natsume) decorated with paulownia and swirling young grass motif in gold raised lacquer. Interior and bottom of gold nashiji (gold powder). With original signed box, inscription reads: purple gold paulownia and young grass, flat natsume (murasaki kin kiri wakakusa hira-natsume). *Lacquer artisan residing in Wajima City, Ishikawa prefecture. Pseudonym: Shōsai宗斉. Was taught lacquer techniques by his father, 若島登 founder of the Taigado 大雅堂 lacquer firm in Wajima city. Vice President of New Japan Art Institute. He has won numerous awards, including at the New Japan Art Exhibition and the grand prize at the Crafts Club but also abroad such as the New York Art Contest, and the French Revolution 200th Anniversary Exhibition.
Signed:on cloth and box ‘made by Takeshi’ (Takeshi saku) plus artist’s seal reading Takeshi.
