Description: Red natsume, decorated with ivy in gold raised lacquer and inlaid mother-of-pearl. Interior of gold nashiji (sprinkled gold). With original signed box, inscription reads: Rikyū natsume (referring to the natsume shape named after the historical figure of Sen no Rikyū 1522 – 1591, greatly impacting chanoyu, the Japanese ‘way of tea’) *Born in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture in 1948, his real name being Yoshio 良雄 . In the same year as he was born, his father Issai I founded Chiyahira Lacquerware shop, becoming Wajima’s first lacquerware specialist for tea utensils. After graduating from Rikkyō University, he trained under his father and succeeded him as the second generation. The name Issai was given to his father by the head of the Sōhen school of tea ceremony.
