Artist:Ushida Keison 牛田 雞村 (1890-1976)
Description: A two panel screen showing geese in flight against a landscape with pine trees and temples, c. 1930. Sumi on paper. Born in Kanagawa prefecture, Ushida Keison was a student of Matsumoto Fūko (1840-1923). Together with Hayami Gyōshu (1894-1935), Omoda Seiju (1891-1933) and Imamura Shikō (1880-1916) founded the Sekiyōkai in 1914. The group disbanded in 1916 after the death of Shikō. After the war, he stopped entering works into competitive exhibitions and was involved in stage designs for traditional Kyoto dance performances.
