Artist:Ōyama Chūsaku (1922-2009)
Description: Elegant landscape painting on paper, pampas grass on the foreground, with a second layer feauturing a mountain range, with Mount Fuji overlooking the composition. Tranquil fall landscape. Signed: bottom left corner ‘Chūsaku’ with artist’s seal Chūsaku. With antique gold frame with glass plate. Sticker on the back of the frame titled ‘Fuji, first day of fall ( Risshū Fuji), signed ‘Chūsaku’ with artist’s seal Chūsaku. *Prestigious Nihonga (Japanese style) painter, born in Fukushima prefecture. In 1940 he entered the department of the Japanese painting of the Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1946 he first exhibited at the prestigious state-sposored Nitten, where he would exhibit regulary. In 1947 he became a pupil of Nihonga-painter Yamaguchi Hōshun (1893-1971). In 1999 he was honored as a person of special cultural merit and awarded the Order of Culture in 2006. He mostly painted landscape and animal-themed paintings and often painted carp fish.
