Description: Scroll painting on silk of a pair of peafowl perched on a rock near a tree peony. The peafowl in front shows off its beautiful plumage, while the other is mostly hidden from view. A detailed elegant painting with soft colour palette and uncountable amount of tiny gold brush strokes in the plumage of the birds. With original box, titled ‘painting of peafowl’ (kujaku zu) signed by artist. *Artist born in Osaka, possible reading of name ‘Kitamura Momosen’ (not confirmed). Given name Rokuemon 六右衛門. Pupil of Nihonga painter Himeshima Chikugai (1840-1928).
Signed: Momosen, with artist’s seal, and on original box.
