Description: Monochrome ink painting on silk, of a snow-covered plum tree, against a full-moon backdrop. Dynamic composition due curved tree trunk and branches. Date: 1936. No box. Sticker on the scroll reads ‘Painting of a plum tree’ *Nihonga painter, born in Amakusa, Kumamoto Prefecture. From a young age studied Buddhism, Sinology, and painting under father Tsurudate, and went to China to study painting. Later specialized in plum painting in Fukuoka and gained fame for his meticulous style.
Signed:painted by the 68-year old Koritsu, with two artist’s seals.
